Atheta

Atheta is quite a small predatory beetle, both

the adults and larvae are covetous predators and

they eat the larvae as well as the eggs of fungus gnats. In addition, Atheta also consume thrips and also the eggs

and larvae of some little nuisance flies and midges

found in the greenhouse.

 

The Pest

Fungus gnats attack the roots of nearly all houseplants and also plants in pots and borders.Fungus gnats also ruin vegetables,ornamentals, fruits, fungi and weeds. Fungus gnats lay eggs

in moist compost and their larvae feed on roots and stem-bases, weakening or killing seedlings, small plants and cuttings. One specific biological control product is available which is called Atheta Predator .
